Football: Spurs ban three fans for trying to sell Champions League final tickets

LONDON (AFP) - Tottenham have given "indefinite" bans to three fans who tried to sell their tickets for the Champions League final against Liverpool.
Three Tottenham season-ticket holders listed the seats for the June 1 showpiece at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium in Madrid on a secondary market site.
But they are not allowed to resell the tickets, leading Tottenham to issue the bans.
"The club has this week issued indefinite bans to three season-ticket holders who have listed their Uefa Champions League final tickets for sale on a secondary ticketing platform," a Tottenham statement read on Tuesday.
"Once again, we wish to remind all our supporters that any ticket purchased is for the sole use of the individual who purchases it from the club.
"Transferring or selling tickets on unofficially breaches our terms and conditions and is against the law.
"We shall look to take the strongest possible action against anyone found to be engaging in such activity - including indefinite season-ticket bans.
"Please do not ruin one of the biggest occasions in the club's history by selling on your ticket and profiteering from fellow Spurs fans."
The north London club have been allocated just 16,613 tickets for the all-English final, meaning many fans will miss out.
With so many fans of each club unlikely to get a seat in the 64,000-capacity arena, Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust last week issued a joint statement with Liverpool fan group Spirit of Shankly imploring sponsors of the competition to give up tickets.

Football: Ribery, Robben return as Bayern go five points clear

BERLIN (AFP) - Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben returned to action on Saturday (May 4) as Bayern Munich heaped pressure on Bundesliga title rivals Borussia Dortmund with a 3-1 win over Hanover.
The veteran wingers, both of whom are set to leave Bayern at the end of the season, returned from injury as Bayern made heavy weather of a crucial victory over the Bundesliga's bottom club.
Robben made his first appearance since November while Ribery scored what may be his last ever goal at the Allianz Arena to seal a 3-1 win and put Bayern five points clear of title rivals Borussia Dortmund with a game in hand.
Dortmund face a tough trip to Werder Bremen later on Saturday.
Hanover kept Bayern at bay for nearly half an hour before Lewandowski headed the hosts ahead from close range and Leon Goretzka curled the second in off the post.
The visitors hit back after half-time with a Jonathas penalty, the result of a highly controversial handball decision from VAR against Jerome Boateng.
Ribery secured the win six minutes from time, and the home fans had more reason to cheer a few minutes from time when Robben was brought on moments later.
Borussia Moenchengladbach and Hoffenheim both stumbled in the race for the top four, as they shared the points in a 2-2 draw.
Matthias Ginter cancelled out Pavel Kaderabek's opener, before Nadiem Amiri restored the lead with a fine volley. Yet Josip Drmic saved Gladbach's Champions League hopes with a late equaliser.
At the bottom of the table, relegation looms ever larger for Nuremberg, after goals from Felix Klaus and Marcel Tisserand saw them lose 2-0 in Wolfsburg.
They and Hanover were spared relegation for at least another week, however, as Hertha Berlin won 3-1 at home to Stuttgart, who remain in the relegation play-off place.
Vedad Ibisevic ended a 395-minute goal drought for Hertha when he prodded them ahead on 40 minutes. Goals from Ondrej Duda and Salomon Kalou sealed the win for Hertha, despite a late consolation header from Mario Gomez.

Football: Neymar 'cried for two days' after new foot injury

RIO DE JANEIRO (AFP) - Neymar "cried for two days" after injuring his right foot for a second time in January, he told Brazilian television according to an excerpt of an interview broadcast on Tuesday (Feb 19).
The 27-year-old Paris Saint-Germain star recognized that damaging the same metatarsal he hurt in February 2018, necessitating an operation, was serious.
"It's more complicated. The first time I hurt myself I said, 'I'll have an operation, it has to be fixed as quickly as possible'. I wasn't sad," he told Globo TV.
"This time, I took it harder. I cried for two days at home."
The injury sustained in a French Cup win over Strasbourg on Jan 23 has sidelined the Brazilian forward for 10 weeks.
PSG hope he will be healed enough to get back on the pitch in time for a potential Champions League quarter-final in April.
This time, the club's medical staff have decided on conservative treatment of the fracture rather than another operation.
Last year, Neymar was laid up for three months after surgery, returning just in time to play in the World Cup in less than stellar form.
His full interview with Globo TV is to be broadcast on March 3.

Albirex Niigata v Home United
Jurong East Stadium, 5.30pm
Former national defender Noh Rahman got his coaching career in the Singapore Premier League (SPL) off to the best possible start on Wednesday after he guided Home United to an impressive 3-0 win over Geylang International.
But the 38-year-old, who took over the reins on an interim basis from Saswadimata Dasuki last Friday, has not had much time to enjoy his maiden victory.
With a wry smile, he told The Straits Times yesterday: "Being a player and a coach are two very different things.
"As a player, you just have to focus on what you eat, how you train, and to give your best in games.
"As a coach, the minute one game ends, you're already thinking about the next game."
He is expecting a much tougher challenge today against defending champions Albirex Niigata at the Jurong East Stadium.

NO TIME TO REST
As a player, you just have to focus on what you eat, how you train, and to give your best in games. As a coach, the minute one game ends, you're already thinking about the next game.
NOH RAHMAN, Home United's interim head coach, is slowly becoming aware of the huge demands of the job.

The Japanese team went undefeated last season en route to a third straight league championship, but a new league rule this term means Albirex had to sign at least four Singaporean players, with at least two of them starting and playing the entire first half.
Albirex are smarting after a 4-2 defeat by Hougang United on Wednesday, their second loss of the season, and are fourth on 11 points after seven games, one ahead of fifth-placed Home.
Said Noh: "It's a 5.30pm kick-off on a hard (artificial) ground, and it could be hot. We are expecting a tough game."
During a 20-year playing career which he called time on at the end of 2016, he earned 79 international caps as well as a reputation for being one of the most professional local footballers around. Widely respected by his peers, he won two league titles (2001, 2002), two Singapore Cups (2012, 2013) and two AFF Suzuki Cups (2004, 2007).
One of the first things the rookie coach did after his appointment was to consult a group of six senior players. "It was quite a lengthy meeting where we shared quite a lot of things, and I appreciate the players (for) being honest," he said.
Veteran full-back Juma'at Jantan, 35, was one of those involved.
Said Juma'at: "In football, one of the most important things is communication. If we have that, things will fall into place.

"Noh is a no-nonsense type on and off the field and the players, even myself, look up to him. And he is open (to feedback) as well, so I think he is the best choice to lead the team for now."
Juma'at, along with Izzdin Shafiq, Abdil Qaiyyim and South Korean midfielder Song Ui-yong in the squad, were teammates with Noh when he played at the Protectors from 2013 to 2015.
Asked if he felt weird coaching players he once shared a pitch and changing room with, Noh said: "Yes, a little bit. But they are great, they know where the line between a coach and the players is. And I appreciate the fact they understand their roles in the team well."
Home youngster Adam Swandi recalled that Noh was one of the established seniors when he received his first Lions call-up in 2013.
The 23-year-old, who scored against Geylang, said: "Coach Noh has a lot of experience and he is a role model for players like me.
"He has so much to offer our team and Singapore football."
Noh said he has been told by the club that a new head coach would be appointed within six weeks, and is looking forward to returning to his role of assistant coach, which he said was "to assist and learn".
"I'm not shy in saying I feel I am not ready for a head coach job like this," said Noh. "But it's a challenge I am ready to take on."

Football: Birmingham hit with nine-point deduction after breaching financial rules

LONDON (AFP) - Championship side Birmingham have been docked nine points for breaching financial rules, the English Football League announced on Friday (March 22).
The Championship side broke the EFL's profitability and sustainability regulations and faced a possible 12-point deduction and a transfer ban.
The penalty drops the club from 13th in the second-tier table to 18th, leaving them only five points above the relegation zone.
An independent disciplinary commission heard the case on Monday and decided the Midlands club should not be given the maximum penalty.
It follows a review of the financial submission from Birmingham City for the three-year period 2015/16 to 2017/18 where it was determined the club had recorded losses in excess of the £39 million ($51 million) threshold.
"The profitability and sustainability rules, aligned with those in the Premier League, became effective in 2015/16," said an EFL spokesman.
"Season 2017/18 was the end of the first full reporting period with Birmingham City the only club found to have breached those requirements, when it incurred adjusted losses of £48.787 million, £9.787 million in excess of the permitted losses."

A spokesperson for Brighton and Hove Albion said in a statement: "We would like to thank Sussex Police for their assistance in dealing with this unsavoury incident, and we are very pleased with the outcome.
"It underlines both their and our commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on any form of abuse from those attending matches at the Amex. We would remind all fans that we will not tolerate any form of abusive behaviour at the stadium and will always take the strongest possible action."
The fan ban is the latest worrying incident involving Chelsea supporters this season.
A Chelsea fan was accused of shouting racist abuse at Manchester City star Raheem Sterling during the Blues' 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri admitted he was frustrated by the "stupid" people who were tarnishing his club's reputation after repeated complaints about fans singing an anti-Semitic chant about Tottenham supporters.
