Football: FAS to shut down its elite academy

In a bid to refresh its youth system, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) said yesterday that its elite FAS Football Academy (FFA) will be scrapped, with its players to continue their development at the various Singapore Premier League (SPL) clubs.In response to queries from the Sunday Times, FAS deputy president Bernard Tan said in an e-mail: "While the FFA has produced key players for the national team in the past 18 years, much of our youth development efforts were concentrated on a fairly narrow pipeline of elite players coming through.
